About us

Hello, I'm Alan.

For the past 15 years, my business partner Gavan and I have been passionately tackling consumer-related issues as they arise. I’ve dedicated a significant part of my journey to using technology to help people recover their lost pension money in Ireland and the UK. Meanwhile, Gavan created a taxi app to enhance the customer experience for taxis around the world, similar to Uber. Together, we truly believe it’s time to shake up old, outdated industries for the benefit of consumers everywhere!

Why wills?

Creating a will had been on my to-do list for a while. I usually manage my affairs well, but the process of getting a will felt complicated. I thought I needed to find and pay a solicitor and wasn’t sure what information I needed. These concerns pushed this task down my list of priorities—until I finally decided to act.

Here’s how it went:

  • I asked a friend for a solicitor recommendation.

  • I contacted the solicitor and got information about the process.

  • I completed a form to share my financial details and wishes.

  • My wife and I visited the solicitor for an hour to discuss our details.

  • We received a draft will via email, which was hard to understand due to legal jargon, but we clarified things through Q&A.

  • After finalising the draft, we returned to the solicitor's office and spent another 45 minutes signing and witnessing our wills.

  • For two wills it cost us €467.

Here’s what I learned:

  • Making a will is straightforward for most people with simple needs.

  • I didn’t need to provide detailed financial information since it can change over time.

  • You don’t necessarily need legal advice — their value lies in asking important questions, which can be replicated digitally.

  • The total time spent was about three hours, which is more than needed to create a will.

  • Creating a legally approved will using technology will make it much more affordable for people.

The eureka moment.

As an entrepreneur, this drawn out and expensive experience inspired me to create Willwise with the aim of helping people in Ireland to create their will through a quick and affordable online service.
